Scarecrow Preschool Theme

Today we focused on talking about scarecrows.  The book we read yesterday had a scarecrow at the end so it is nice to do the two themes back to back or joined together.
There are several fall packs that you can find for free to print off.
I made these scarecrow cards many years ago.  I wrote the body part that the arrow is pointing at on the card.  Have your child point to each body part on their own body with each card.
This is a fun little scarecrow book called Scarecrow Loves Fall.
We had a great time doing some scarecrow themed songs and finger plays.  You can see many ideas to use at this website.

My son also enjoyed making a shape scarecrow.  I had many shapes cut out and he chose which ones he wanted to use to build his own little scarecrow.
You can also check out my 2012 post and my 2013 post about scarecrows.

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

Today we read "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything".  This is a fun book to read a loud and have fun with.
Making Learning Fun is the best resource I have found for this book.  There are flannel board pieces like above and activities like the ones pictured below, plus more.
Here is my son's very own scarecrow.  He actually colored some which is great considering he tries to avoid coloring as much as possible!
This is a free printable that is a fun way to review the book.
This Roll a Scarecrow is a fun game to play a long with this story.
You can see previous posts about this book in the links below:

Scarecrow Preschool Theme

As kind of a continuation of our theme yesterday we talked about scarecrows today.
We talked about the different parts of a scarecrow.  I put up the body parts and clothes as we talked about each.  This guy isn't pretty, but he gets the idea across.
My son tried out a color by number coloring sheet for the first time from this really cute scarecrow freebie pack.
We also did a size sorting activity from the same pack.
This is a cute Fall book about scarecrows I read to my son.
This is from a fun scarecrow tot-pack.  I like this cutting activity because for beginner scissor users like my son they can cut along the gray dashes, for more advance cutters they can cut around the shapes.
Here is a fun Autumn pack with a scarecrow puzzle.
I took a bunch of different shapes and had my son build a scarecrow out of the shapes.  He wouldn't pose for a picture with it today.
Here is the link to what I did with my middle son last year with scarecrows.

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

Today we read and did activities for The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything.  It is  a really fun story and was kind of a continuation of our scarecrow theme from yesterday.
Making Learning Fun has a ton of great printables to go with the story including flannel board piece pictured above and this sequencing activity pictured below.
This is a cute activity.  You can choose do roll a scarecrow or spin a scarecrow.  I found it for free here.
There is also a larger scarecrow you can print with this activity.
I found this activity sheet to go with the book here.
These printables are for a little more advanced, but you ask the questions, have your child answer and write them for them if they are not able to do it themselves.
You can see what we did with this book last year here.
