Bear Stays Up for Christmas

I had some things to take care of this morning so we had a small preschool day.  We enjoy reading this book though so it was a perfect day for it.  Check out the story props pictured here. I let my son put up the pictures of each thing as he saw them in the book while I was reading.  After we finished the book I laid out the names of each thing and he matched those with the pictures.  He can recognize what things sound like and was able to figure out almost all of them completely on his own.  For example he knows that bear starts with the letter B so he looked for words that started with B.  There were two so then I guided him from there.  The only one that really tricked him was the word wren.
Karma Wilson has a website with lots of things on it for teachers, parents, and children with all of her books.  I found this bear mask on her site.
Here is a link to several activities that go with the book if you want to spend more time on it.

If you are looking for some activities geared towards a little bit older child you can see what I did last year with my (at the time) five year old.

Bear Stays Up for Christmas

Today we read Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson.  We love all of those bear books at our house.  1+1=1 has some funny story prop printables that we used with the book.
I also found this fun freebie at teacherspayteachers.com   My son cut out and glued each card on to a second page in the section of the book it fell on- beginning, middle, and end.

It was a simple, but fun day.  You can also check out what we did with this book last year here.

Bear Stays Up for Christmas

Today we read "Bear Stays Up for Christmas" by Karma Wilson.  It is a really fun book.  We talked a little bit about how bears hibernate during the winter.  I found some cute visuals to use with the book at 1+1=1 that we used.
After we read the story I laid out all of the word cards and my son matched them to the correct picture.  He is just beginning to read however, he figured it out based on what things began with.  The tricky one was wren and so I told him to look for a word that ended with the right sound.

Then my son drew a picture of a bear.  It doesn't really show up in the picture though.  My son wants to do preschool everyday which is a lot of work for me, so doing little things like this keeps us both happy.
