Ant Preschool Theme

Before we began preschool this year I asked my son for ideas on which themes he would like to do.  I am trying to stick with that list for the most part.  One thing he wanted to talk about was ants.  I think because we talked about ants last year when talking about the letter A so today we talked about ants and a little about the letter A as well.
A Teaching Mommy has an ant pack with some great printables included in it.
Confessions of a Homeschooler has a Letter A/Ant pack that is also full of great printables.
My son loves the song "The Ants Go Marching" as well as this cute video that has the song in it.

My son really doesn't like to color (I haven't figured out why), but I can usually get him to paint.  Today I gave him a plastic fork to dip in green paint to make grass.  Then he used his finger to make red ants.  He also made an ant hill.
You can check out my 2013 post about ants here.

Letter A/Alligator

Today we talked about the letter A and alligators!
We love to sing "5 Little Monkeys" which talks about teasing an alligator so we sang that song several times.  We used these cute stick puppets at one point (which I have used before).
The majority of our activities were from 1+1+1=1's Alligator pack.  My son wanted show help show off the activities.
Here is a close up of some of the activities.  My son thought the alligator coloring page was cute.
Me and Marie has a fun Andy the Alligator Preschool Pack that includes these practice sheets.
Here is our letter A alligator.  We didn't do anything fancy with him, but my son thought it was great fun to play with.  Here is his alligator face.

Letter A as in Ant Preschool Theme

Today we talked about the letter A and to go along with the letter A we talked about ants.
We will be going through the alphabet throughout the year following Confessions of a Homeschoolers Letter of the week printables.  Since she has printables for the letter A with ants that what we talked about today.
She has a number of great activities to go with this theme.  You can find her printables here
These are some pictures I took of my son enjoying a few of the activities you can find there.
Lacing card for a capital A.
Lacing card for a lower case a.
 Counting cards.
 Ant size sorting
 A is for ant puzzle.
Upper case and lower case matching.
 Shape matching.
Here is a lower case letter a that my son had a blast painting.
Another cute ant preschool pack we used was from 2 Teaching Mommies.
 These are ant pattern cards.
There are a few tracing pages too.  Since my son is at the beginning of writing I had him trace along the dots with his finger.

We also sang "The A says a.." You can find a little video of my kindergarten singing it when he was younger here to get the hang of the tune.

We also visited Starfall to do the letter A activities there.

My son's favorite activity of the day appeared to be watching this little video of "The Ants Go Marching".  He watched it a dozen times and showed it to his older brother too.

I'm Back (sort of)

We are all moved into our new place however I don't have the majority of my preschool stuff unpacked yet.  My five year old started kindergarten a couple of weeks ago and since then my next oldest has been wanting to do preschool.  He will be four  next week.
Today I pulled out some items that begin with the letter "A" and put them together.
Apple
Applesauce
Airplane
Ant
Angry Bird
Alligator

Then I put a stuffed bear in the mix and I asked him if he knew which item didn't belong.  He immediately picked out the bear.  I don't know if it was a lucky guess or if he really knew, but he got it right.  We then talked about each item and how it started with the letter "A".
Then we did ant activities for the letter A which you can find at Confessions of a Homeschooler.
