Mail Carrier Preschool Theme

Today we talked about Mail Carriers!
Confessions of a Homeschooler has a Mail Carrier Unit that includes the hat above, the activities pictured below and some others as well.
We watched this video that describes what a typical day for a mail carrier could be like and issues that they may have to deal with.  This topic is also a nice time to talk about writing letters, your address, and what it takes to mail a letter.
My son helped write a letter for someone and put it in the envelope.  Then when it was stamped and ready to go he dropped it in our mail drop box.

My son hasn't felt so great the last few days so even though there is a lot more you could do with this fun theme I kept it basic and he had a good time.  Another idea I think is fun is to is to have children sort mail and set up a little post office.  They could sort letters by color or shape or number.

Dentists/Teeth

Gathering Time:
Talk about going to the dentist (experiences they had)
Focus Activities:
Practice brushing our teeth (go over all the areas we need to be sure to brush)
Activities from Musings of Me
Other Possibilities:
My son drew this picture of a tooth on our whiteboard.  He then put some yucky stuff on the tooth.
After he brushed his teeth he came back, drew a toothbrush and toothpaste and erased the yucky stuff from his tooth.
After we made our toothbrushes (see Focus Activities).  He pretended to brush more teeth he had drawn with the toothbrush.

I had a lot of stuff planned for today.  Months and months could be spent doing a farm theme and I packed our Farmers theme into one day, but I plan to do farm animals individually with time.  We did have a great time talking about Farmers.  I hope this day is enjoyable to look through.

Farm Animal Silhouette Matching Game

We are going to be doing a Farmer's theme tomorrow.  I've got lots of fun things planned.  One thing that we are going to do is a matching game with animals and silhouettes.  I thought I would explain briefly how I made mine.
I used my Cricut Machine and the Animal Kingdom Cartridge.  The same thing can be accomplished with clip art or any other animal cut outs you can find or make.

First I made silhouettes of each of the animals I decided to use.  Since the theme is about Farmers I used farm animals including a cow, rooster, duck, lamb, horse, goat, chicken, and pig.  Then I pasted them onto white card stock and laminated the pages.  You could also use a file folder and make it into a file folder game if you wanted.
Then I made the regular versions of each animal and laminated then.  Laminating is optional, but it will help your materials last longer.
Now your child can match each animal up with the corresponding silhouette.  Easy, easy!  My boys love matching games so I really hope they enjoy this one.
Check out our Farmers Theme for more farm ideas.
