Since my oldest two are back in school I am starting to do preschool stuff with my youngest. He is just shy of being 3 1/2 years old. He loves the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr and since it is a great way to introduce the alphabet I thought that would be a great first day of preschool theme.
After we read the book (one of my son's favorites) we sang the alphabet song. I found these really cute printables from Kinder Alphabet that we used for several activities. The first thing I did was hide all of the lower case letters around our living room and let my son go on an alphabet hunt to find them. Once he found them he'd pick them up and tell me which letter it was. He has a pretty good grasp on most of his letters. Here is a matching activity from Kinder Alphabet. I would put an upper case letter on one side and he'd find the lower case letter. It was a good challenge for my son.
For this activity I gave him a yard stick and laid out the upper case letters. I would tell him to help me find a certain letter and he would point to it with the yard stick.
We also enjoyed watching the little movie clip from Scholastic that has a fun song. You can find it here.
Several years ago I made this Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tot-book. You can find the printables here.
I have done this theme several times before. You can see my blog post from what we did in 2010 here. It includes this fun snack.
Here are some other fun activities that we didn't do today, but have done in the passed or plan to do in the future.
Pixie Chicks has a free coconut color matching printable
Oopsey Daisy has a cute Chicka Chicka Boom Boom file folder game
Making Learning Fun has tons of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom related activities
You can also check out my blog post about all of our Alphabet favorites including books, movies, toys, websites, and TV shows.
We'll see how things go, but as of right now I am hoping to do preschool with my 3 year old 2-3 times a week!
